Written sometime in 1983, ‘Back To The Old House’ was initially recorded on September 14, 1983 for the Smiths’ second appearance on John Peel’s BBC radio program, which was broadcast on September 21st.
The Smiths’ recorded the definitive version of the song in mid-October 1983 with producer John Porter at Pluto Studios in Manchester. This version was released on January 16, 1984 as the B-side of the band’s third single, ‘What Difference Does It Make?’.
